Quincy Mumford here! I have been working very hard over the past few years touring with my band, The Reason Why. In five short years we have released 3 studio albums (recorded and released independently right here in New Jersey!) and a live record that was recorded at The Saint last year. Live at the Saint went on to be voted as the #7 record of 2012 by the listeners of WBJB, very exciting!

After the live album, I began writing new songs…I knew that I needed to get back into the studio…. I wanted to get out of my element and try something new…. As it turns out, the Rock Gods were smiling on us and a gentleman by the name of Ken Coomer (Wilco, Emmylou Harris) contacted me after I entered a songwriting contest that he was judging. He loved my songs so much, that he asked me to come to Nashville, TN to make an album with him!

So…what choice did I have?? I packed my bags, chose 10 solid songs, and headed to Nashville. It was a once in a life time experience, from the musicians to the studio to the town itself. Musicians such as Aubrey Freed – Guitar (Black Crowes / Sheryl Crow), David Labruyere – Bass (John Mayer), Jerry Roe – Drums (K.D. Lang) and Ken Coomer – Drums (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) all performed on the record. We had such a wonderful time making this record together.

Musically speaking I could not be happier with how the recordings turned out. The record has an extremely organic texture that I absolutely love. We got old school and recorded a few of the tracks onto 2” tape! My songwriting has evolved and this opportunity has allowed me to represent everything I love and have been inspired by musically. We mash it up with all of my influences; soul, funk, reggae, hip-hop, and acoustic songs to round it out!! Like I said earlier, everything is just the way I envisioned it….except for the part about only having enough $$$ to pay for the recording…. What did my Mom used to say? Be careful what you wish for?? She is right! Now, I need you to get excited also! Because we need your help!

That’s where you guys come in. I need help to reach my goal of $10,000 to finish this record and get it into your hands. The money will go directly towards mixing, manufacturing and promoting this release. Please know that it will not be possible without your support. Here is the cool part…You can pledge any amount you would like; in return I am offering you some awesome incentives. Anything from t-shirts, a pre-released copy of the album and a signed guitar to a house concert or ski trip with me to Vermont! (Incentives listed on the right) You help us and we give back in a big way!

Here’s the catch: Kickstarter is either ALL or NOTHING. If I don’t reach my goal of $10,000 by April 19th, no one will be charged and I do not get to keep any of the money. So that means, if we do not raise AT LEAST $10k, there might not be a new album!!!

Quincy Mumford here to tell you about some exciting news! You may or may not know, but I just recently came back from recording a brand new album in Nashville, TN. The other day I received some rough mixes of the new record, and man I am very excited! I can’t wait to get it out to the world, but unfortunately you won’t be able to hear it until it is released in late spring / early summer. The only way to hear the brand new music is to SEE US LIVE!!

So that brings me to my next topic. Touring and the band “Slightly Stoopid”. And now I am going to mix the two…Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why will be going on tour this March with Slightly Stoopid! (dates listed below) This is very exciting for me because I have been a fan of Stoopid and their music since I was a kid.

It has been a huge learning experience for me being in Nashville…The musicians, the vibe, the studio, the life style. It has been a dream of mine to make a record like this. A record that has pushed me to write and deliver songs in a whole new way. The songs rang from ballads, to funk, to reggae, to ska, to soul and R&B.

Working with a producer like Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) has been amazing. His ideas and organic approach really make all the songs unique but universal! He values my input and ideas, making the process painless, fun, and creative. Not to mention how goofy he is. Between Ken and the engineer (Patrick Miller) not a dull moment goes by, constantly goofing off and cracking jokes..haha

All the musicians are absolutely incredible: Ken Coomer on drums, Jerry Roe (K.D. Lang, Head Automatica) also on drums, Brian Gearty on bass (The Reason Why), David Labruyere (John Mayer) also on bass, The Soul Sisters, Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Sheryl Crow), and John Lancaster on keys. These guys take it to the next level and I am honored and stoked to have them on this new album.

2012 was a great year. So many awesome memories with the band on the road, and taking our music to the next step. From recording a live album and dvd, to touring all summer long, opening for G.Love, Umphrey’s, and Slightly Stoopid. Playing Gathering Of the Vibes Music Festival, receiving new management, winning 2 Asbury Park Music Awards, raising a ton of money at our 1st ever holiday show, and our live album “Live At The Saint” coming in at #7 on 90.5 the Night’s top 90 albums of 2012.

Now I am on my way down to Nashville, TN to record another full length album with Grammy winning Producer, Ken Coomer (Uncle Tupelo, Wilco). The songs and music have elevated to another level of my song writing craft. What is going to be different about this record, is that all songs relate in one way or another. They all have a similar message in which bring them all together to create an album that will really feel like a complete album, and not just song after song.

I can’t wait for all of you to hear it! Look out for 2013 spring tour dates with some bands you might recognize :) See you out there!

We are stoked to finally have our friends from Long Miles in Asbury Park. We had a nice little tour with these guys down south this past summer. We have become very good friends, and love playing together. We Invited them up to play our home town and share the experience of an awesome holiday show!

We have teamed up with Musicians on a Mission in order to give back to the community. They are focusing specifically on musicians that have lost equipment, instruments, cars, homes, or belongings in Hurricane Sandy. Proceeds from ticket sales will be contributed, along with raffle prizes and a 50/50. We want to raise as much money as possible to give back to those who were not so fortunate in the storm, so everyone come on out!!

I recently return from Sweden once again. I was out there for about 2 weeks. It was amazing!! The weather is definitely colder then home, but it sure was a beautiful autumn I got to witness. I spent 4 days on a farm that was right on the baltic sea. I was staying at the only house on this small island. Pretty cool waking up to a bunch of cows outside your window. They had a wood heated jacuzzi that took about 9 hrs to heat. So, I spent a few of my days chopping wood and feeding the fire. The weather was amazing so it made it really easy to write in the small cabin on this farm. I wrote 3 songs!!! I am really stoked on them to.

When I returned to the states, I showed them to the band, so we could get right back to work on making new music. We have plans to record a new album in the beginning of January. So far we have 13 songs written, and we plan to write at least 5 more, so we have plenty to choose from. We showcased a few of them when we opened for Slightly Stoopid in Atlantic City last week. Man, that was a crazy night, those guys know how to have a good time!

We can’t wait for you to hear the new tunes, so look out for more info and videos coming up.
